The early releases of the ‘THE WORD Processor’ (TWP) application in the 1980’s were developed for multiple platforms: Apple II+, TRS80-III, IBM-PC, Osborne, Kaypro, CP/M 2.2, Commodore 64, and MS DOS platforms. ^{(5, 12)} Later, they produced TWP for MS Windows platforms.

By 2000, I believe Bible Research Systems only produced MS Windows software of the TWP suite. It is unclear at this time when they stopped developing the Apple versions of TWP; moreover, the last version I am aware of was Version 3.0 (1985) based on pictures I collected. Hopefully as more information is discovered and/or software are preserved here, we will have more details for the software and platform specific information.

This repository currently contains MS DOS and MS Windows versions. It is my hope to able to locate and preserve the other TWP versions for the other platforms. If you possess any earlier TWP software for different platforms, please contact me.

The Word Processor: New International Version (version 4.3) [MS-DOS]
This URL link takes you to Archive.org⁽¹⁴⁾ where an original poster has uploaded the zip file for the New International Version (version 4.3) produced by BRS.

This is an interesting version that is unique by its separate working directory named ‘NIV’ versus ‘BIBLE” as in the standard installed version. Since this zip files contains a working directory with no installation disks–it is hard to determine the marketed nomenclature for this version compared to the standard full version of 4.3 (1989).

What I do know is that there are differences: 1) the executable is NIV.EXE versus TWP.EXE as in the full installed version, 2) the sub-directory structures are different, 3) and some small files that exist in one and not the other.
I suspect this must be a separate application focused on the NIV translation compared to the full TWP software suite with the NIV translation.

The Word Processor 1.0 [Apple II+]
This URL link takes you to Archive.org⁽¹³⁾ where an original poster has uploaded the disk images for the TWP Apple II+ software.

Since I do not possess Apple hardware for Apple II generation, I cannot verify the viability of the floppy disk images. Hopefully, someone will contact noting if these images are good.

The Word Processor 1.0 [MS-DOS]
This file set contains the King James Version text files–it is unfortunate that the original owner lost the program disk. However if someone has TWP version 1.0 or 2.0 program disk, these floppy disk images will work.
